DaVinci’s Challenge – Quest Room (Western Ave.)

DaVincis challenge poster from Quest Room LA

Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication.

By guest reviewer: Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci.

Did you know that the title of this review is a quote from me, Leonardo DaVinci? Well, it is. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, but my workshop is far from simple.

It’s an examination designed to weed out the exceptional from the average. I’ve had the pleasure of watching these Fuggire (Escape) Junkies successfully solve the tasks I designed to test their intellect. The group’s curiosity rivals my own however they are not Maestri della logica (Masters of Logic) such as I, but pretty damn close.

Quickly they became accustomed to my late 15th century dimly lit workshop. I watched in silence while my trusty assistant provided them as many hints as they needed. Most importantly, I furnished two leather bound books with much useful information. I wanted them (and indeed all future students) to succeed, but I will not give them the world. A stern warning was issued in the beginning not to touch the sand. Non toccare la sabbia!!!! But they did it anyway. Why don’t these students listen?

Anyways, I prefer to work alone, but teamwork is very important. I separated this group and marked their uncanny ability to work together. Again, I was impressed. They have passed my trials and examinations to test their intellect, even my use of The Golden Ratio. Impressionante infatti (Impressive indeed).

The Good

After the crew worked together to successfully conquer the challenge I set forth, I was affascinato (enthralled), to hear their feedback on the room. They were captivated by the décor of my workshop, even down to the gift I made for The Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza. Some of the trials I masterminded myself, others I created to have a little fun with them.

The Not So Good

It seems they enjoyed themselves, but I sensed a collective frustration as there was a slight need for a prior knowledge of certain math theories behind the Golden Ratio. And maybe 7 students at one time were too many.

Conclusion

As I have given them an A for effort, they have granted me 4 locks for having a great story, great décor and stimulating but trying puzzles. Note to self, I need more candles and torches for light.

It’s time for this Renaissance Man get back to work. I expect to see more escape enthusiasts rise to the challenge I have set forth. Are you worthy to take your place at my side? 4/5
